Cheyenne Cycling Club Meeting Minutes

1. Approval of May Minutes: The May, 2008 minutes were approved.

2. Financial Report: President, Chris Hall reported that we have 962.36 in checking, 735.00 in Savings and 26.42 in the apparel account. .

3. Current Membership- 78 members. We still have 15-20 members who haven’t renewed their dues. Chris will send out a personal email to them asking them to renew

4. Report on start of Club Championship Series- Guidelines and Rules The Club Championship Series is in full swing. If you haven’t joined us for the Time Trial or Hill Climb, you still have time as the series continues until the end of August. Guidelines and dates will be emailed to members.

5. Broken Spoke Award guidelines. Most improved cyclist award! The Broken Spoke Award history was discussed and the guidelines passed around to members. Please nominate a cyclist who is active in the club for this prestigious award. The guidelines will be emailed to all members. The award is on display at the Bicycle Station.

6. Recap of rides members have participated in. Annie LaRue reported that she rode in the Elephant Rock ride earlier this month. Pictures of the ride will be emailed so members can see the ride! Gary Krause completed the Community Classic in Ft. Collins, as well reporting that the day was gorgeous and enjoyed the ride.

7. Snowy Range Ride? The Snowy Range ride which was scheduled for Saturday June 15 has been postponed till later in the summer when members aren’t as busy and in better climbing shape. Keith reports that the ride is particularly challenging with lots of climbing. We will talk about rescheduling it at the July meeting.

8. Super Day, Tour De Prairie participation? Everyone was encouraged to sign up and ride in the Tour de Prairie which is on Saturday, June 28th, beginning at Lion’s Park. You can get registration forms at both bicycle shops. This is a great opportunity for you to wear your CCC Jersey. If you don’t have one, please contact Chris Hall to see if you’re size is available. The cost for a short sleeve jersey is just $45.00.

9. Group Ride Leaders sign up! Larry passed around a sign up sheet for group ride leaders in an effort to make sure that each group ride has leaders for A,B, & C level Riders. Please come on out to ride with the club and give us another chance!! We’ll make sure you have a ride leader for your group. Thanks to all the cyclists who signed up as leaders. We still need a few leaders for June, so Larry will email the calendar for you to sign up. Please remember that the way to build the club is by encouraging new riders to participate in our club rides and making it fun for them. The July and August leaders will sign up during the July meeting.

10. Club Jerseys Committee report and homework! Larry reported on the Club Jersey Committee who has asked for ideas on designed our 2009 Club Jersey. Please look for an email from the committee soliciting your help for design ideas. Sponsorship update: Please let Chris Hall or Larry Jensen know if your business is interested in sponsorship for next year!

11. Report on website—Joel Z. Joel reported that he hasn’t done anything with the club website yet as he hasn’t obtained the software. He will look at the costs for the club to purchase our own software so that we will have it registered to the club and not the club webmaster.

12. Laramie Mountain Bike Series The Laramie Bike club is putting on a mountain bike championship series much like our on Tuesday nights at 6:00 pm at Happy Jack. Several club members are participating and report that it’s a blast. The website is: laramiemtbseries.com

13. Cyclo Cross competition in fall? Larry reported that the club is interested in co-sponsoring a Cyclo Cross competition with Rock on Wheels in the fall. Members will be called on to help with the competition, so please keep this in mind. The club will register it as an official race to encourage participation by the Colorado clubs. For more information on Cyclocross, contact Brian Brothers who works at Bicycle Station or George Anadotis from Rock on Wheels.

14. Bike to Work Week- June 22nd to 29 Bike to Work Week kicks off on Sunday, June 22nd and culminates the following Sunday. The Cheyenne Cycling Club, WYDOT and Warren Federal Credit Union will be hosting the annual Bike to Work Breakfast Wednesday, June 25. Club members are encouraged to participate and come early to help hand out prizes. The club will also sponsor a Family Ice Cream Ride Tuesday June 24th at 7:00 pm beginning at the Bicycle Station. Several options were available for our ice cream stop including Culvers, Dairy Queen on Lincolnway and Coldstone. The route will be decided at a later date. Chris Hall will be the ride leader for the evening. Members are also encouraged to participate in the commuting to work contests that are sponsored by WYDOT or many local businesses.

15. Breakfast with Michael Ryan Last year Chris Hall hosted a breakfast for Executive Director, Michael Ryan who will be visiting Cheyenne in July. Depending upon the date of his visit she will again host the breakfast after a Saturday group ride.

16. End of Season Picnic and Club Championship Awards: Chris Hall will check into the availability of the Community House for September 10, 13, 17 and 20th for our end of the season picnic and club championship awards. Please let her know which of these dates works best for you.

17. Old Business: None

18. New Business The club has an opportunity to co-coordinate a Walk/Bike to School Day with WYDOT and several elementary schools. Grant money may be available for the club to help coordinate this event. It is an opportunity for the club to reach out to children and talk about bike safety and perform some community service. Chris Hall will check out the program and let members know if we can participate. New member, Brian Neville reported that he heard about a new ride called the Urban Assault which is like the Great Race in July. There is an event in Denver and in Ft. Collins. He will provide the club with the link to their website.

The meeting ended at 8:25 pm.


The next club meeting will be July 9th, at 7:00 pm at Cheyenne Regional Health and Fitness Club
